Understanding the Cause
Back Pain Is Common. Your Solution Should Be Personal.
Back pain can affect every part of your day—from getting out of bed in the morning to working, exercising, or spending time with your family. Because every person's condition is different, the first step is understanding what's contributing to your symptoms so together we can determine the most appropriate course of care.
Back Pain Isn't One Condition
The Same Symptoms Can Have Very Different Causes
Back pain isn't a diagnosis—it's a symptom. Muscle strain, joint dysfunction, poor posture, arthritis, disc problems, and other conditions can all produce similar symptoms. That's why an accurate evaluation is so important. Before recommending care, I take the time to understand what's contributing to your pain and whether chiropractic care is appropriate for your specific situation.
Looking Beyond the Pain
A Thorough Evaluation Comes Before Treatment
Your first visit isn't rushed. I'll review your health history, discuss how your symptoms affect your daily life, observe your posture and movement, and perform an examination tailored to your condition. If chiropractic care is appropriate, treatment is often provided during the same visit. If I believe another approach, additional testing, or a referral is in your best interest, I'll explain why and help guide you in the right direction.
Movement Is Medicine
Recovery Doesn't End When the Visit Is Over
Successful treatment often involves more than what happens during your appointment. Depending on your condition, I may recommend simple stretches, strengthening exercises, posture modifications, or changes to everyday activities that can help reduce strain on your back. Small changes, performed consistently, often make the biggest difference over time.
Knowing When to Seek Help
Not Every Episode of Back Pain Should Be Ignored
Many episodes of back pain improve with conservative care, but some symptoms deserve prompt medical attention. Severe weakness, loss of bowel or bladder control, numbness in the groin or saddle area, fever, unexplained weight loss, or pain following significant trauma should be evaluated immediately. If your history or examination suggests that chiropractic care is not the best place to start, I'll explain my concerns and help guide you toward the most appropriate care.
